About the event

So In Love

Honoring Hilda Perl Goodwin

The gorgeous voices of soprano Helena Brown, tenor Andrew Bidlack, and mezzo-soprano Chrystal Williams soar in an afternoon dedicated to the bliss and travails of love. Ms. Brown, who makes her Metropolitan Opera debut this spring, performs Verdi’s triumphant “Ritorna, Vincitor!” and also celebrates love’s softer side with Bernstein’s “Some Other Time,” from On the Town. Mr. Bidlack and Ms. Williams simmer in the sultry, seductive duet “Séguidille” from Bizet’s Carmen. The program also includes lighter fare from the American songbook, including a culminating tutti performance of Cole Porter’s “So In Love,” from Kiss Me Kate – Hilda’s favorite song. Join Maryland Opera for these afternoon delights and more!

The program is Maryland Opera’s musical love letter to Hilda Perl Goodwin, who was a beloved piano teacher at the Peabody Preparatory and influenced several generations of Baltimore musicians. Her generous gift served as the seed money for the nascent Maryland Opera when it was first founded nearly 5 years ago.

Are you “So In Love” with gorgeous, inspiring music? Join us for an afternoon of inspiration!
